Latte map for beginners and advanced

The world of lattes may seem simple at first glance - espresso, milk, foam - but there is a lot of character in the cups. Latte, Cappuccino and Flat White are often on the drinks menu, but even so, many people confuse them. Yet all three offer different moods, proportions and experiences. Now let's look at them by associating them with life situations!

Latte - the coffee for leisurely chats

Latte is the friendliest latte around. A shot of espresso is made with a lot of steamed milk, topped with a thin, soft milk foam. The flavour is creamy, restrained and the coffee is not overpowering, making it a favourite for people who are not big coffee drinkers. But it's no coincidence that it comes in a large glass or mug, because a latte always takes time, it can't be drunk in one go. It's the ideal choice for breakfast, long conversations or sipping while sitting at your laptop.

Cappuccino - the balance of the Italian classic

The Cappuccino is more assertive. The espresso, steamed milk and milk froth are split roughly equally. The thicker foam layer makes the first sip more „airy”, and then the real character of the coffee comes out. In Italy, it is typically a morning drink in the morning, but is less frequently requested in the afternoon. Cappuccino is like a well-constructed dialogue, with no one element overpowering the other. It's a good choice for breakfast, because it's full-bodied enough to wake you up, but the milk and foam are gentle on an empty stomach. A great choice with pastries, croissants or a light breakfast.

Flat White - when coffee comes into focus

Flat White is the „youngest” of the three lattes, and it started its conquest of the world around Australia and New Zealand. It contains less milk than Latte and has almost no separate foam layer, just silky microfoam. This keeps the espresso taste more pronounced, while still allowing the milk to soften it. Flat White is for those who like milk, but don't want to give up the distinct taste of coffee. Because it contains less milk and doesn't have a thick foam layer, it's less saturated than a latte, so it works well in the afternoon when you're not in the morning mood but still need a little extra energy.

Three drinks that, although made from the same ingredients, offer a very different experience. The choice is usually not a matter of rules, but of mood. If you'd like to try any or all of them, go to to our magic café one day!
