Just like late mornings spent doing nothing, late mornings spent doing nothing have long been the privilege of the luxurious. That is why the term brunch, which is a fusion of breakfast and lunch, first began to spread among the upper classes in the first half of the twentieth century and then slowly became popular among the middle classes. Of course, this was linked to the social changes of the century: with the introduction of the eight-hour working day and then the free Sunday and Saturday, ordinary people had more and more free time, which sometimes included a lazy morning. As brunching is not a daily occurrence for most people, many like to combine it with a meeting. Brunch is usually served in the late morning, around noon, so there's usually a little more than a solid breakfast and a little less than a heavy lunch.<\/p>
