In Hungary, the first red-letter holiday for the youngest children was celebrated in 1931, although it was not called Children's Day but Children's Week, and lasted for a whole week.<\/p><p>In 1954, the United Nations General Assembly proposed that there should be a day every year, a so-called Universal Children's Day, to mark the day of all the world's children and the unceasing struggle for the well-being of children. It was left up to countries to decide when they wanted to celebrate this day, and in Hungary the date was set for the last Sunday in May each year. Children's Day is celebrated in many countries, in many places on 1 June.
